The Swarm Ecosystem: 6 months in review || Costanza Gallo
We will review the highlights of the past few months, and some exciting news from the ecosystem. This journey will bring us from outer space, to the ocean, to Thailand, inside the blockchain rabbit hole.

Okay. Hi, everyone. So, how does it work? So, my name is Costanza, and I'll be talking about the swarm ecosystem, what you can build on swarm. And so far we've seen amazing technical presentations and workshops, but the question that people always ask me is, why?
Why should I use Worm instead of AWS? What is it that you can do on Worm that you can't do on legacy clouds? Now, I'm not going to answer that question, because in the past few months, we've been making many new friends, and I'm'm gonna let them answer that question for us. So we will see what we did, what we're doing and what we're going to do. And this journey is going to bring us from outer space to the ocean to Thailand to the blockchain rabbit hole.
So brace yourself, fasten your seatbelt and off we go. So the first step is outer space, the decentralized Earth manifesto. Last year Santa Claus came early and at the beginning of December representatives from the Swarm Foundation, from the Swarm community, from the European Space Agency, and the Earth Observation community gathered together to discuss the convergence of blockchain, AI, and Earth Observation. And we spent the day together just nerding with workshops, speeches, and dreams. There is a few main challenges for Earth Obs observation that we identify that cannot be solved by legacy cloud models, but that they can be solved by swarm.
So data integrity and accessibility. In the summit, we saw before with Elad and now with Alexis, the convergence between AI and the centralized storage. And this is incredibly important in the case of organizations like the European Space Agency. Ensuring that the output of AI models is not corrupted, is maintaining secure communication and ensuring data availability. All of that is crucial.
And that involves rigorous methods for data validation and error checking through the entire process pipeline, maintaining secure communication channels to protect data from unauthorized access to data tampering, even with hardware failures or cyber attacks. This is because those combined efforts create a secure, reliable environment for data integrity and accessibility. Powerful verifiable storage. In critical decision-making scenario, there is the need for massive storage capacity. There is the need for privacy.
There is the need for data provenance. There is the need for trustless computation. There is the need, in other words, for verifiable data. So, basically, there is the need for ensuring that each phase of the research from data collection to model output is authenticated and traceable. Finally, tokenization of hurt observation data which means establishing ownership, transforming data into assets, tenderizing data to reduce friction, and assigning and aligning incentives for data sharing and research.
So we work alongside the European Space Agency's FeeLab and their community to address all those challenges and go where nobody has been before. So we've been in contact with them ever since and I can't wait to tell you their next steps. But for now, from outer space we land in the ocean. So the next partnership I want to mention here is with Digital Ocean, one of the main cloud providers in Europe. So let's put our swimming goggles on and dive in.
This partnership is to make an important milestone in Digital Ocean's journey to simplify the centralized storage accessibility. Thanks to the Swarm Lightnode one-click app on Digital Ocean. Now, before I move on, how many people here are developers? Raise your hands. don't be shy That's a lot and how many of you run your own be node?
Okay, that's good. That's good So meet my friend Bob Is building something really cool and it's killing it at a really fast pace So Bobby scripts are native and he knows that the centralized storage is the way to go. It doesn't want any operational overhead though. It already has so much on its plate. So, what does it do?
Bob deploys warm light nodes using the digital ocean control panel or the API, paving the way for its application to be scaled. Now, memes aside, this is set to revolutionize how developers interact with the blockchain and with the storage, making it more accessible, scalable and efficient, thanks to the seamless integration of Swarm Lightnode with the digital ocean infrastructure. But what does it mean for you? You can be like Bob. You can now easily deploy swarm using either the digital ocean control panel or the API.
So now I promise to show what we did, what we're doing and what we're going to do. So let's time travel to today and go to the blockchain rabbit hole. A few days ago, for those of you that pay attention, we announced a partnership with IoTeX, a web-tree platform that connects smart devices with apps. So this partnership unfolds in a double way. First, integrating with the Deepin scan to elevate transparency and real-time tracking of the swarm network.
The integration with the Deepin scan is designed to offer users a high level of transparency and real-time tracking. By creating an official swarm project profile on the deepin scan, the network is now represented. And this verified profile provides users with clear and detailed insights into the swarm network. And then we are also joining the, uh, deepin liquidity pools. So, in addition to the transparency benefits, the partnership with IoTeX includes joining their DPN pools.
The integration not only enhances the visibility of Swarm's ecosystem, but also provides significant benefits to users by adding even more liquidity for the BDD utility token. So by joining the pool, Swarm users can now enjoy improved liquidity and facilitate smoother and more efficient token exchanges and basically contributing to a more vibrant ecosystem. And this also helps to expand the visibility and reach of the swarms ecosystem, attracting even more participants and fostering a greater environment and engagement within the DPN ecosystem. So this double integration marks a significant step forward in the mission to provide seamless and reliable decentralized storage solution. So what does it mean for the community?
First of all we have more transparency. The deep scan integration offers a clearer and more detailed view of the swarm network, highlighting the distribution of activities of the bin nodes in real time. Improved data accuracy. So there were regular updates to ensure that the data presented on the deep scan is both accurate and up-to-date. And liquidity and reach.
So boosting the liquidity and visibility of the BZZ, benefiting users and expanding the Swarm's ecosystem. This dual integration is very important for its potential and is set to greatly benefit the community. So, stay tuned for more updates as the capability of the Swarm network continues to expand and innovate. So, now time travels to today and let's go to Thailand. I need to make a small announcement and I hope that you are as excited as I am.
So as you know, especially some of the people that I see here in the audience, we've been working a lot to push the boundaries of the centralized technology and our journey is far from over. So today I'm super thrilled to share with you some of the exciting news that you might have seen on Twitter like half an hour ago, 40 minutes ago, that will underscore our ongoing commitment to innovation and community engagement. So for those of you that have been following Swarm for a while, this is not a surprise. It is a testament to the incredible job that some of our community members have been doing and our efforts, their efforts, have been renewed and expanded for a second season, bringing even more groundbreaking development to our community. So, season two, a love triangle DevCon, and Swarm.
Recap of the previous seasons. Back in 2022, DevCon hosted the video archives on Swarm Vieterna. The project was quite a rush, but a success. And I'm happy to say that the DevCon improvement proposal, to repeat it, hosting DevCon videos on Eterna and Swarm, has been accepted. So pack your bags, because I'll see you all in Thailand.
Thank you. Thank you. All right. Anyone wants to question something, ask something? Are you excited?
All right. Okay, that was it. Thank you so much, Constanza. Thank you.
