05:19Opening Statement | Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov, UNWE | ETHSofia 2026
ETHSofiaOct 6, 2026
Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov, Rector of the University of National and World Economy (UNWE), officially opens ETHSofia 2026. Founded in 1920, UNWE is one of Bulgaria's largest universities: it enrolled more than 5,400 new students this year across some 40 bachelor's and 80 master's programmes, and it launched Bulgaria's first bachelor's and master's programmes in cryptoeconomics. He describes how hard it is for a classical, conservative university to open new specialities such as crypto economics, blockchain technologies and cybersecurity, and welcomes the bachelor's and master's students in the room. Calling ETHSofia the perfect place for education to meet business, he proposes a joint business academy with the university and wishes the forum success. Keynote at ETHSofia 2026, 24 September 2026, Sofia Tech Park, Sofia. Part of Blockchain Week Bulgaria 2026. Speaker ▸ Prof. Dr. Dimitar Panayotov Dimitrov, Rector, UNWE Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov is a Bulgarian economist specialising in defence and security economics. He has been the rector of the University of National and World Economy since December 2019 and was re-elected in 2023. 13:17The Moat is Where Your Data Lives | James Kurz (Filecoin Foundation) at ETHConf
ETHGlobalJul 9, 2026
In this talk, James Kurz from the Filecoin Foundation argues that in the generational AI buildout, the moat is where your data lives, and storage is the underappreciated part of the story. He opens with a history lesson: 10 to 20 years ago compute was cheap and you simply put hard drives where the people were, in Northern Virginia or the Bay Area. Today compute dominates the conversation, but the coming five years will see an explosion of data collection about the physical world for AI training and inference, driven by robotics, neurotech, and self-driving cars, capturing far more than the tiny fraction humanity has stored over the past 30 to 40 years. This demands vastly more storage capacity. James explains the core shift: historically compute went to the data because data was heavy, but now compute is being dragged to wherever cheap power exists, places like Wyoming, northern Norway, Finland, and Ohio that were never the interconnection points of the internet. This creates storage deserts, where major GPU clusters are being built far from where storage lives. When data sits far from GPUs, you hit the laws of physics (fiber optic speed and node hops) that hardware cannot solve, plus the steep economic cost of data egress from providers like AWS, and vendor lock-in where moving data into one cloud traps you there. He stresses that keeping data physically close to compute is really about the cost of iteration: whoever can run more tests and checkpoints faster outpaces competitors, and jurisdictional compliance adds another reason to have distributed storage near the clusters. He argues incumbents will not solve this since hyperscalers work at massive scale and focus on GPU buildouts, creating an opportunity for local and colocated storage operators to be the fast, close data layer without buying their own GPUs. He positions Filecoin as already being this global network, built over five or six years with almost 2 exabytes of capacity and cryptoeconomics that flex capacity up, letting users leverage existing capex rather than spending billions, while tapping underutilized storage devices amid hard drive order books extending beyond 2027. He closes by introducing two ways to try Filecoin in 2026: FilecoinWarm Storage as an S3 compatible endpoint (live in the EU, coming to North America and Asia) and Filecoin onchain cloud for developers wanting programmatic smart contract storage. 00:00 Introduction 00:11 Have You Tried Fable 5 and Filecoin 00:50 A History Lesson: When Compute Was Cheap 01:10 Why Storage Is the Underappreciated Story 01:30 The Coming Explosion of AI Data 01:53 How Little Data We've Captured So Far 02:11 Why We Need Much More Storage 02:30 Bringing Compute to Where the Power Is 02:53 Why Storage Deserts Are Emerging 03:14 Storage Deserts Are Happening Now 03:48 Why Distance to GPUs Hits the Laws of Physics 04:22 The Steep Cost of Data Egress 04:41 How Egress Fees Create Vendor Lock-In 05:09 Why Close Data Wins the Iteration Cycle 05:54 Why Incumbents Won't Solve This 06:27 The Opportunity for Local Storage Operators 07:01 The Jurisdiction and Compliance Angle 07:52 Why Filecoin Already Is This Network 08:13 Leveraging Billions in Existing Capex 08:51 Why an Agnostic Cloud Matters 09:32 Why You Need to Move Data Quickly 09:52 Filecoin's 2 Exabytes of Global Capacity 10:37 Activating Underutilized Storage Everywhere 11:05 Two Ways to Try Filecoin in 2026 11:24 FilecoinWarm Storage as an S3 Swap 11:47 Filecoin Onchain Cloud for Developers 12:26 Why Data Is the Key to the AI Buildout 13:10 Closing _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ *ETHConf 2026* ETHConf is a 3 day event for founders, industry leaders, and builders who are excited about the possibilities of building on top of Ethereum. 18:53Luke Drago: The Intelligence Curse | Intelligence at the Frontier 2026
Funding the CommonsMay 9, 2026
Losing your job to AI is the obvious worry. Luke Drago argues the real problem is bigger. Luke, co-founder of Workshop Labs and co-author of The Intelligence Curse, borrows a concept from development economics: the resource curse, where oil-rich states stop investing in their citizens because their wealth comes from the ground, not from taxing labor. His argument is that full automation creates the same dynamic. When a handful of actors own the models, the compute, and the data, there's no economic reason left to invest in everyone else. The social contract quietly stops working. Luke makes the case that this outcome isn't inevitable, and that the window to build things differently is still open. Speaker: Luke Drago (Workshop Labs / Blue Dot Impact) This session was part of Intelligence at the Frontier, held March 14–15, 2026, at Frontier Tower in San Francisco. 13:27Ashutosh Desai: On the Shoulders of Capitalism | Intelligence at the Frontier 2026
Funding the CommonsMay 9, 2026
In 1770, the British East India Company's pursuit of profit contributed to a famine that killed 10 million people. Ashutosh Desai starts there, and draws a straight line to today. Ashutosh, founder of Make School and collaborator on Google's Magenta music AI project, argues that technological advantage has always allowed capital to out-leverage both labor and governance. The Industrial Revolution reshaped the bodies of Indian weavers. AI is doing something similar now to software engineers and knowledge workers. His warning: the American military-industrial complex combined with AI is the greatest risk we face, and many of the people enabling it are rational actors who simply can't find their way out of the prisoner's dilemma. His invitation is to stop being a user of these technologies and become an active shaper of them. 29:57Who Owns the Intelligence? Open vs. Closed AI | Intelligence at the Frontier 2026
Funding the CommonsMay 9, 2026
Six people currently sit on OpenAI's board. Those six people make decisions about one of the most powerful technologies ever built. Is that safe? James Farrell, CTO of Funding the Commons, moderates a conversation between Ala Shaabana, co-founder of Bittensor, and Ashutosh Desai on what a more decentralized AI economy could actually look like. Bittensor recently completed a full training run for a 72 billion parameter model on decentralized infrastructure — an early proof that markets can coordinate around AI without centralizing control. The conversation covers sovereign AI development across countries like India, the difference between decentralizing across organizations versus across nations, and why a multipolar AI world is safer than one where a single government or company holds all the power. It also turns toward something harder to quantify: as AI floods the internet with generated content, human attention and authentic connection may become the scarcest resource of all. Speakers: Ashutosh Desai, Ala Shaabana (Bittensor) Moderator: James Farrell (Funding the Commons) This session was part of Intelligence at the Frontier, held March 14–15, 2026, at Frontier Tower in San Francisco. Juan Benet: Thoughts for the FtC Community in 2026 | Intelligence at the Frontier 2026
Funding the CommonsMay 9, 2026
The crypto community built a lot. It just didn't quite get there. Juan Benet offers a frank assessment of why, and why AI might be the thing that finally makes it real. Juan, founder of Protocol Labs and the person whose work gave rise to IPFS, Filecoin and Funding the Commons itself, reflects on a decade of building decentralized infrastructure that reached fewer people than it should have. Stablecoins worked. Most of the rest didn't land at scale. The speculative noise drowned out the execution. The rails built in crypto are exactly the underground layer AI needs to transact at scale. The crypto dream might still happen, just built by AI agents rather than humans alone. Juan's challenge to the room is to start thinking now about how to provision public goods not just for people, but for the millions of AI agents that will soon be part of the conversation too. Speaker: Juan Benet (Protocol Labs) This session was part of Intelligence at the Frontier, held March 14–15, 2026, at Frontier Tower in San Francisco. Learn more at https://www.fundingthecommons.io

51:21Panel I MEV: Fractalization of Block Building | Pragma Istanbul 2023
ETHGlobalOct 9, 2024
What happens when the MEV supply chain starts to break apart? In this insightful panel from Pragma Istanbul 2023, industry leaders dive into the evolving architecture of Ethereum’s transaction pipeline. Tarun Chitra (Gauntlet), Anna George (CoW Protocol), Wee Howe Ang (Tokka Labs), Kubi Mensah (Titan Builder), and Tina Zhen (Flashbots) unpack the future of block building, solver strategy, Searcher competition, and the rise of intent-based systems. The discussion explores whether intents are just glorified limit orders, how solvers differ from Searchers, the implications of builder verticalization, and whether block building itself will remain viable as solvers get smarter. Maximal Extractable Loss-Versus-Rebalancing
ETHTokyoSep 17, 2024
This talk will discuss mehtods to empirically determine the maximal extractable amount of such CEX-DEX arbitrage value in an attempt to measure the upper bound of this LVR problem to date. The video features Ricky Yudhoyaga from Sorella Labs discussing the hidden costs associated with being a liquidity provider (LP) in cryptocurrency markets, particularly in the context of Uniswap's V2 and V3 pools. He begins by explaining the difference between passive LPs and LPs who trade against informed traders, highlighting that informed traders have market insights that LPs lack, which can lead to LPs incurring losses. Ricky introduces the concept of LP's hidden costs or LVR (Liquidity Provider's Value at Risk) and discusses methods to quantify these costs. He details three approaches: a filtered markout based on historical trades, an implied volatility-based model, and a max LVR method. The filtered markout method calculates the difference between the price at which a trade is executed and the price shortly after, adjusted for volume and whether it's a buy or sell. This method also distinguishes between informed and uninformed trades by looking for signals such as high priority fees. Ricky presents data from an open-source MEV classification tool called Brontis developed by Sorella Labs, which shows that LPs have potentially lost over $200 million since March due to not performing proper delta hedging. He also discusses how varying the time delay in

Then we will look at tools and techniques we can use to govern and sustain crypto-economic systems and talk about how to increase their impact and protect them against bribery, cooption and destruction. ETHBerlin04 - https://ethberlin.org A Department of Decentralization event - https://dod.ngo The video discusses the intersection of political anarchy, crypto-economics, and the history of anarchist movements, with a focus on how these concepts relate to Ethereum and the broader aims of decentralization. The speaker touches on historical examples of anarchy from the diggers in England to the Russian revolution and how these movements were often temporary but sought freedom from coercive institutions. They also draw parallels between these historical movements and the temporary autonomous zones suggested by Hakim Bey. Additionally, they mention Satoshi Nakamoto's perspective on gaining a new territory of freedom for several years through Bitcoin. The video also considers the success of the free software movement and its principles, suggesting that while it's possible to co-opt free software projects, their open nature allows for forking and continued community-driven development. The overarching theme is how various forms of anarchy have influenced and continue to influence decentralized systems like Ethereum, with an emphasis on resisting central power and promoting individual freedom.
Wassim Alsindi
The Chain Mail Gaze
Web3 Summit 2024Aug 19, 2024
With their dreams of new ‘Network State’ empires, resource extraction, and colonial domination, today’s tech overlords are the descendants of Europe’s mediaeval Crusaders: well-financed, zealous fanatics remaking the world in the name of their greater good. Through a psycho-political reading of scarcity, chauvinism, and colonialism, The Chain Mail Gaze connects Crusader ideologues’ desire for blood, land, and booty, to emerging ‘frontiers’ mediated by contemporary technologies. The video features a speaker named Wissie Malcindy discussing the concept of friction in the context of work and how it relates to a broader spectrum of ideas. The talk delves into various subjects, including rural friction, funding mechanisms, the dynamics of influence and bilingualism, and the evolution of communities over time. The speaker touches on complex themes like anarchy pricing, disappearance of certain elements over years, cultural shifts due to toxic masculinity, and the impact of technological advancements like blockchain and automation. The narrative also explores Bitcoin's role in this landscape, highlighting its temporal properties and its function as a "chronogenic apparatus" that creates new forms of temporality independent from traditional calendars or clocks. The discussion includes reflections on how Bitcoin operates as a clock, its energy requirements, its perception by maximalists, and its broader societal implications. Additionally, the speaker examines the concept of petro-masculinity and how it relates to ecological concerns in parts of the UK. The talk concludes by considering Bitcoin's creator Satoshi Nakamoto's disappearance and how Bitcoin enthusiasts communicate within their networks. Overall, the video presents a complex intersection of technology, society, time perception, and environmental issues through the lens of cryptocurrency.
Alignment
EthCCJul 18, 2024
Talk about alignment of interests between users of a protocol and how it's now technically possible (with EIPs and tokenomics). Would be wonderfull with Abdelhamid Bakhta from Starkware. The video features Alita Kalbatai, who has 11 years of experience in cryptocurrency and has been involved in non-profit activities in France and business for several years. She discusses the concept of alignment in cryptocurrency, emphasizing its importance for the sustainability and robustness of systems. Alita argues that aligning individual interests with collective goals is crucial and explores this idea through the lens of game theory and the concept of "conscious agents" who prioritize a common objective over self-interest. She suggests that by changing the agents rather than the game, more effective economic interactions can be designed within cryptocurrency systems to achieve strong equilibrium between self-interest and communal benefit.
Old Notes to New Coins: Collaborative Strategies for Small Issuers (Matthew Commons)
Stable SummitJul 16, 2024
Old Notes to New Coins: Collaborative Strategies for Small Issuers The video features Matthew Commons, president of the VerifiedUSD Foundation, speaking at an industry event. He discusses the history of stablecoins and private currencies, highlighting that while stablecoins are a recent development, private currencies have existed since ancient times. He introduces his organization's stablecoin, USDV, which is backed by real-world assets and utilizes technology for decentralized minting and tracking capital inflow. Commons then draws parallels between the current state of stablecoins and the free banking era in the United States (1837-1866), a time when private currencies flourished alongside significant economic growth. He emphasizes the importance of transparency and shared risk and reward in such systems, as demonstrated by historical practices like banknote reporters and interbank networks. The talk aims to provide insights on applying historical lessons to modern-day currency systems and fostering partnerships within the crypto community.
[Debate] Steelman Challenge: we are all building the same damn thing! 4
ZuBerlinJun 13, 2024
Clip The video discusses a new proposal for handling maximum extractable value (MEV) and pre-confirmations in blockchain networks post-merge. The speaker illustrates the distribution of MEV boost bids using a graph, highlighting that 99% of MEV blocks are valued under one ETH, and no blocks have exceeded 1000 ETH since the merge. They critique the old proposal that required 1000 ETH of collateral as a sequencer, noting its high barrier to entry, unnecessary risk, inefficiency, and lack of user compensation when things go wrong. The new proposal suggests only requiring one ETH of collateral to cover most pre-confirmations and using additional insurance for any larger requirements. This system would make it easier for smaller operators to participate, reduce risks for operators, and ensure users are compensated for any faults. The discussion also covers how to prevent insurance fraud using secure enclaves like SGX to track and limit insurance capital allocation. Questions from participants address concerns about sybil resistance in a permissionless setting, the potential impacts on base rollups with registry requirements, compensating hack victims from MEV proceeds, and ensuring the security and feasibility of the proposed insurance mechanism. The speaker elaborates on how secure enclaves can prevent over-allocation of insurance funds and maintain trust in the

They emphasize the importance of aligning these outcomes and considering how different proposals affect the distribution of MEV. The speaker also touches on topics such as sandwiching (a type of front-running), privacy in transactions, and the potential for centralization. They argue that MEV cannot be eliminated but can be harnessed for beneficial purposes. The presentation includes a Q&A session with panelists who discuss various aspects of MEV, privacy, and economic incentives within blockchain ecosystems. The summary is that the video is likely to be highly technical, aimed at an audience familiar with cryptocurrency concepts, and focused on the nuanced implications of MEV in blockchain systems.
Talk | Overload the Execution Proposer instead (From MEV-Boost to ePBS to APS) (Barnabé)
ZuBerlinJun 13, 2024
Clip The video features a speaker discussing the intricacies of precomp builders and the separation of attester and proposer roles within a blockchain network. The talk delves into various design concepts like PBS (Proposer Builder Separation) and APS (Attester-Proposer Separation), explaining their importance in mitigating centralization risks, reducing MEV (Maximal Extractable Value) reward viability, and providing a clean protocol interface. The speaker elaborates on the conceptual differences between proposing and building rights, as well as between beacon proposing and execution proposing. They explore the current MEV Boost system where validators, acting as proposers, seek builders to determine block contents. The talk also covers EPBS (Enshrined Proposal Builder Separation), which involves fair exchange via protocol, allowing proposers to commit to builders within the network. Further discussion points include the potential for different market structures under EPBS, questions about bid cancellations, and the concept of burning MEV to capture value from builder-to-proposer transactions. The speaker also suggests an iterative roadmap towards APS, with steps including creating a logical role for execution proposers separate from beacon proposers, running slot auctions in advance to capture bid value more effectively, and considering alternative designs like execution tickets. The talk concludes by highlighting how
Issuance with Casper
ZuBerlinJun 12, 2024
Clip The video presents a detailed analysis of the potential issues surrounding excessive issuance in a cryptocurrency network, specifically focusing on Ethereum. The speaker discusses the implications of the current issuance policy and whether it would be sustainable if it remained unchanged for the next 20 years. The talk delves into the demand for staking versus the supply, explaining how different levels of stake participation affect issuance. Key takeaways include a steep demand curve for low levels of stake participation to ensure minimum security, diminishing value for additional stake, and uncertainty about future staking levels. The discussion then shifts to supply dynamics, where it's noted that the willingness to supply stake is not well-defined and changes over time. A significant part of the talk is dedicated to differentiating between solo stakers and delegated staking, highlighting their respective costs, risks, and benefits. The speaker also emphasizes that solo stakers face more challenges as staking becomes more competitive and economies of scale favor larger centralized entities. Furthermore, the video addresses concerns about protocol security if too much stake is controlled by a single entity and the potential for one liquid staking token to become dominant, effectively replacing raw ETH as the standard currency on Ethereum. This could introduce an unwanted trust layer into what is meant to be a trustless system. In closing, the speaker

This talk is from ETHDenver, the world’s largest Web3 BUIDLathon and Community Gathering. ETHDenver’s content is crypto and blockchain focused. Subscribe to our channel to learn more + connect on Twitter: https://twitter.com/EthereumDenver. Speaker: Deborah Simpier is the co-founder of Althea. Abstract: Roughly 40% of the US suffers from lack of broadband internet access. In this talk, I'll explore how we built a decentralized, crypto powered ISP to solve that problem in both rural and urban environments (and now Denver too!). Homeowners, businesses and farmers own different components of the network and earn xdai or ethereum for forwarding bandwidth, instead of using large towers and centrally held infrastructure. Everyday people buy eth on their phones and load it into their routers to pay for internet. Building a network in this agile and versatile way has allowed us to reach people more efficiently and provide cheaper and faster internet service. This talk was recorded Friday, February 14, 2020. 24:20Building the Data DAO – Weilei Yu
Ethereum DenverOct 9, 2020
This talk is from ETHDenver, the world’s largest Web3 BUIDLathon and Community Gathering. ETHDenver’s content is crypto and blockchain focused. Subscribe to our channel to learn more + connect on Twitter: https://twitter.com/EthereumDenver. Speaker: Weilei Lu of Streamr Abstract: Together with DAOStack, Streamr is creating a fully self-governed global data ecosystem run by a DAO. The DATA DAO leverages the data generated by a mobile app called myDiem, which was recently developed by members of the Streamr community. It allows users to share statistics about their mobile apps usage (like time, frequency) without revealing any personal data. It is very similar to iOS’ embedded screentime. Users of the app who are contributing data to the DATA DAO are also active participants who can propose policies and vote. Additionally, we have put together an initial team of administrators composed of developers, designers, marketing and business development professionals. Right now it is in beta testing, with the aim of larger public testing and mass adoption later this year. Each user will not only receive revenue sharing from the data they contribute, but they will be earning also reputation points that can be used to elect new administrators, propose policies or vote for new proposals. The revenue from the app’s sales of aggregated anonymous data will be sent directly to the DATA DAO’s smart contract, where part of its usage will be decided by administrators and part by community proposals. In a 30 minutes long presentation we’d like to showcase what we’ve built so far, talk about the design choices we’ve made in creating the DATA DAO and onboard our first users. At Streamr, we are aiming to build the foundation for a new data economy era where users are empowered to take control of their data and small and big companies alike have equal access opportunities to quality datasets. One of the projects coming out of our ecosystem is Swash, which rewards users globally for their shared aggregated browsing data. It won’t solve the privacy abuse from big tech companies, but it is a first step in rewarding users for the data they generate. Swash onboarded almost one thousand users during its first beta testing in less than a month, without much marketing efforts. 25:05Stop Building S*** People Don't Need – Zach Herring & Katie Johnson
Speakers: Zach Herring & Katie Johnson of ConsenSys Abstract: Look, we’ve all done it: putting hours, days, weeks, and sometimes even months into projects, only to get them to market where they just don’t find an audience that sticks around. Other times, we're asked to build "what's next" for an established product, only to zig when the market counter-intuitive zags, finding all of our work, again, rendered useless. Building things other people want is hard, even for traditional Web2 products. In Web3, the constraints are even more extreme. Oftentimes, we are asked to build moonshots on shoestring budgets and compressed timelines, for markets that haven’t yet materialized. A lot falls on folks in product, engineering, and design to prioritize The Most Important Thing and take the best swing with the few at-bats we have. So is it even possible to gather just-in-time insights that will give you a much better batting average? Join Zach and Katie as they try to answer all of this, applying a combined 20 years’ experience in innovation and design strategy to blockchain products. They’ll break down how to apply traditional Web2 innovation and insights methodology to Web3 products. These tools provide starting points to innovate responsively and build the right thing, at the right time, for the right people. After this talk you will have ... ...field-tested methodology for assembling user insights and designing better products. ...a framework for writing better questions for your user interviews. ...design thinking methods for collaborative prototyping. ...an understanding of what prototypes you need, when, and for what reasons. ...a "napkin math" framework for determining whether or not your team is ready to start building. Katie Johnson and Zach Herring are co-directors of ConsenSys’s Relays program, a funding and resourcing program ConsenSys provides to pre-seed teams. Their singular goal is to make Relays the best place to start blockchain companies. This talk was recorded Friday, February 14, 2020. 21:24Native Mobile Ethereum dApps: Why, How & What to Do About Censorship – Paul Cowgill
Speaker: Paul Cowgill of Tasit Labs Abstract: Young people worldwide do most things on the internet from their phones. And yet we're all building web-based dApps optimized for use on laptops. Native mobile apps clearly are the current winner in Web2. A slightly larger swath of disengaged users might try a mobile web app first, but the “sticky” power users prefer native mobile apps. The main concern when talking about building native mobile Web3 apps is censorship, but using contract-based accounts means that there’s no loss of funds or ability to use the contracts with the same “account” even in the case of an Apple or Google takedown. In this talk I'll cover best practices for building a native mobile Ethereum dapp with a simple UX without any decentralization tradeoff. At Tasit, we're building an SDK to make this simpler. It supports in-dApp fiat onramps, The Graph, in-dapp ephemeral accounts and contract-based accounts, ENS, meta-transactions, deep linking, biometric auth, push notifications, and L2. (We're not boiling the ocean here - our SDK makes use of other great SDKs internally!) To attract the next wave of Ethereum users, we should assume that users don’t have a wallet yet. Let’s set them up with their first ""wallet” in the app they want to use instead of kicking them elsewhere to a separate app to set one up before they can get started. In-dApp fiat onramps recently have made this a viable option. DApps already deliver significant value and “a-ha” moments to crypto-native “innovators” in ways that will eventually be useful for mainstream people too, so the only reason (setting the scaling discussion aside for the moment) that there aren’t lots of users flooding the network yet is that there aren’t sufficiently simple tools for great Web2 product teams to build native mobile apps for Ethereum dapps. Work on Tasit is supported in part by the Ethereum Foundation, the Gnosis GECO program, and Gitcoin Grants. This talk was recorded Friday, February 14, 2020. ETHDenver 2020’s content themes included DeFi; DAOs and Token Engineering (TE); Gaming and Usability; Protocols and Interoperability; and Public Good and Social Impact. 18:29The Future of Ethereum Accounts: Contract-Based Accounts – Shane Fontaine
Speaker: Shane Fontaine of Authereum Abstract: Contract-based accounts offer users a number of features that are not offered by traditional, externally-owned accounts (EOAs). The following advantages of contract-based accounts will be discussed: Batched-transactions allow users to execute multiple transactions in a single, on-chain transaction. This feature also allows dApp developers to design their dApps with a more natural feeling and, in some cases, completely remove the need to teach a user about the underlying mechanisms. Additionally, contract-based account meta transactions will augment this new dApp design and allow for a seamless Ethereum experience. Meta transactions aid in user onboarding by providing the ability to pay for a new user’s transactions or allow a user to transact in a token of their choice. The Ethereum experience with this feature will be unlike anything we have seen to date. A native cryptocurrency firewall does not exist at this time. Contract-based accounts allow for logic to protect users against malicious individuals, dApps, and entities by adding a security layer directly into the wallet itself. This feature coupled with meta transactions pave the way a traditional Web2 firewall to coexist with a Web3 one. Using a contract as a wallet also allows for more flexible recoverability. By associating funds with this contract (instead of a single key), a user can assign multiple keys as owners to funds. Losing one key may no longer force a loss of funds. Creative account recovery methods will be explored. Finally, the future of contract-based accounts will be discussed. Upcoming implementations and companies working on this technology will be reviewed and their pros and cons will be discussed. Advanced and theoretical topics on the subject will be presented to close out the talk. This talk was recorded Friday, February 14, 2020. ETHDenver 2020’s content themes included DeFi; DAOs and Token Engineering (TE); Gaming and Usability; Protocols and Interoperability; and Public Good and Social Impact.
